Cucumber
Diva: Diva is simply delectable,
with thin, tender skin, crisp flesh, and a flavor that combines sweetness with
a genuine cucumber bite impossible to find in the bland supermarket varieties
today. It arises very abundantly on vigorous, disease-resistant plants, giving
you a huge crop of the finest burpless cucumber. No wonder it was a 2002 All
America Selection! These 6- to 8-inch-long cucumbers look as good as they
taste. Spineless and forest-green, they are plump, well-shaped, and packed with
crunchy texture and sweet flavor. Tomatillo
Toma Verde:
75 days. The tomatillos are a member of the tomato family but not a real
tomato. Round green tomatillos have a papery husk that is removed before
preparing. Vining plants are easily grown and prolific. Tomatillos have the
sweet tangy flavor that's essential for authentic salsa and many southwestern
dishes. Tomato
Big Beef: 73 days. Indeterminate. 1994 All
American Selection winner. One of the finest hybrids for home gardeners.
Impressive yields of 10 to 12 oz. smooth fruits with real old time flavor. Tomato
Early Wonder: 55 days. Determinate. Extra-early
maturing and compact variety that yields an abundant crop of round, dark-pink,
great-tasting fruit. Perfect for gardeners in shorter season growing climates. Tomato
New Girl: 62 days. Indeterminate. Early-season standard tomato. Plants
bear 4- to 6-ounce, red fruit. Resistant to fusarium and verticillium.
German Chamomile: German chamomile is an annual that
reaches 3 feet, with downy stems, feathery leaves and daisy-like flowers with
yellow centers and white rays. The dried flower heads are used; an essential
oil is distilled from the flowers, as well as a liquid extract. Chamomile is
one of the most widely used herbs. It is a carminative, remedial tonic, which
also has anti-inflammatory properties and is used to encourage digestion and
boost the immune system. Lemon
Verbena: As a culinary, lemon
verbena makes one of the best teas, especially when blended with mint. It can
also be used to brighten the taste of fish, poultry, veggie marinades,
stuffing, salad dressing, jellies, and vinegar. Chop up leaves and put them in
drinks. As the leaves are tough, remove them before serving. Finely crumbled
dried leaves can be added to the
batters of carrot, banana, or zucchini bread. Try adding some to cooked rice
just before serving. Height can reach 3-7 feet.
